There's more good music today than there ever has been at any point in history. You just have to look for it underneath the shit, of which there is also more of than at any point in history. Same goes for other forms of media, like TV. There are more shitty reality shows now than ever before, but we also get Game of Thrones, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Homeland, Louie, and countless other fantastic shows... all airing simultaneously. Now is easily the best time for music, film, etc.
