It's a "black comedy" pointing out the idiocy of the nuclear arms race during the cold war. Maybe your just not susceptible for this kind of humour. Why a comedy on such a subject? Maybe to lift the tension surrounding the issue.

yes. its one of the greatest movies of all time and its absoloutely hilarious. you'll want to watch it again, so yes, don't bother renting it over and over, just buy it.
