Colwell Junction: http://www.model-railroad-infoguy.com/historic-rail-tour.html

1001 CCGX EMD GP9 "Spirit of Collingwood" of the Barrie-Collingwood Railway on its morning run into Barrie to deliver some full cars that Canadian Pacific delivered to the Utopia yard. The BCRY rail yard is located in Utopia at the diamond of mile 75 of the Canadian National Meaford subdivision and mile 58 of the Canadian Pacific Mactier subdivision.

The Barrie-Collingwood Railway (BCRY) is a short-line railway operation involving a partnership between the City of Barrie, Town of Collingwood, current shippers, CP Rail and the railway operator Cando Contracting Ltd. The Collingwood council recently voted to discontinue funding of the railway's yearly $325,000 operating deficit. In addition to the operating funds, they also faced necessary upgrades of the 1850's vintage rail line and signal systems. This may be the end of an era.

THE LATEST NEWS: "County of Simcoe's Corporate Services Committee passed a motion authorizing staff to enter into negotiations with the Town of Collingwood to acquire its portion of the railway"

  • @JayJr2007 Agree. Im pretty sure CN sold them off for a good reason.

  • @VIAF40PH Well, I guess we will have to wait & see. The rails & ties all the way to Collingwood need replacement as well as new crossing lights & all - it could be staggering amount of money - I doubt any future plans would pay for such an upgrade. Wouldn't it be awesome if they ran a steam train from the Allendale Station in Barrie to the museum in downtown Collingwood? If I had 10 million, I would write the cheque.

  • @JayJr2007 The fifth paragraph in the simcoe.com article qoutes the mayor of Collingwood suggesting that the transportation corridor may be preserved for future freight or passenger service if the County or Province purchases the line. I would interpret that as an intention to abandon the line but not remove the physical plant, leaving it for future consideration.

Maybe it's just an optimistic interpretation of the article on my part.

  • @VIAF40PH I haven't heard anything like that. You have a source?

  • So from what I understand the line will remain in place between Utpoia and Collingwood. Some forward thinking from a Southern Ontario jurisdiction for once.

  • Love the horn she's got a nicely tuned set of chimes. Nice catch Jason
