  • Can I add my thanks for the nostalgia! I was brought up on two RF routes - the 216 Staines to Kingston which went past my door and the 725 Green Line that went from the end of my road. Spent many hours on both as a child. Great to see inside one again.

My only disappointment is how many have opted to be the accursed 218! As a child I hated the 218 cos when waiting in Staines it always arrived first and secondly went to Walton on Thames and was therefore seemed far 'posher' than the humble 216!

  • @BillShipton Thank you for your kind comment, Bill. I am so please that my humble efforts evoked some happy memories for you. If you read my response to an earlier comment, you will see that I too have fond memories of these lovely old RFs.

  • Nice one. Im a 1954 model and used to love these RFs on the 227 route Chislehurst to Penge / Crystal Palace. I didnt know how many are still alive. !!!!!!!

  • @deliow - Thank you for commenting. I have similar memories of RFs on the 210 route. We used to catch one from Golders Green Station to the fair on Hampstead Heath on Bank Holidays and the short bus ride was always an exciting part of the day for me. In those days, the driver would often leave the doors open if the weather was hot. I'm sure they couldn't do that now with all the health and safety laws we have.

  • What great little buses these were... and indeed still are. Lovely pleasant sound, nice airy feel about them and a friendly pleasing shape. It's about time we returned to the days of the bus that looks nice instead of the functional boxes on wheels we now have.

  • I couldn't agree more. I love the shape and the sound of old buses. New buses are comfortable to travel on but they do nothing for me.
