I think that more than being 'clued in', they always knew who was in town promoting a movie or who was in town starring in a play on Broadway so it narrowed down the field quite a bit. Notice how they always ask if they have a picture ready to open, or are in a play currently.....makes it easy.

She had lovely handwriting - Some of the stars could barely write due to factors ranging from being almost illiterate to illness or drugs. She seems to be one of the few who makes it fun in being able to do a different voice completely - So talented, beautiful and completely amazing! Rest in Peace Elizabeth.
