@earthypig I forgot to mention though that I didn't really like the way he ended it. It felt a little rushed to me especially compared to some of the other good versions like Kempff's. Other than that though it's great.
This piece was originally written in G-flat major, but editors of the piece took the liberty to transpose it up into G major for ease of reading. Urtext editions preserve the original key of the impromptu, which radically changes how pianists approach the piece, IMO.
@xkuruma, ironically piano's at Schubert's time were tuned higher than what we know today, and sometimes lower (it really depends since their instruments did not have the kind of tuning stability ours have). But suffice to say, Richter didn't transpose the piece. This is a typical example of anomolies found in the old recording technology.
man this is transposed, like half a note, I'm playing along the recording and it sounds terrible haha, try listening to this and any other recording of this same piece at the same time ;D
Thank you for posting this. I thought there weren't recordings on Richter with this impromptu. I love the tempo, like Horowitz, slow enough to let flow the tune. Do you know where and when was the concert?

Thanks for posting. I cant believe I am hearing Richter's version of this, despite the poor recording quality it sounds so good.
