Do you think she'd just memorized what the letters meant or did she understand the words? My cousin, who has autism, started to read when he was a toddler too, but couldn't understand the context or meaning of sentences until he was well over twenty...

Is this what is termed as Hyperlexia?
It's sometimes found in children with Autism.

I only wish this was something we taught her! Jade taught herself how to read! She is absolutely amazing! :)

I'm curious how it all started. My son has books and magazines all over the room. he is constantly flipping pages. I use to gry to control it but now i just let him grab newspaers or anything and it looks like he's so interested. did your child do this?

Jade was more interested in flashcards. We must have every set sold in Florida!
She really liked the Baby Einstein flashcards. They have real pictures, and the words are in bold print. Plus they are very sturdy cards.
Jaqde is mildly interested in books, and doesn't really pay any attention to magazines or newspapers.
Another thing Jade enjoys, is her magna-doodle. We write many words on this which she enjoys reading. It is a real boredom buster while waiting at Doctors offices, etc.

yes, although I do not know all the songs, Jade loves classical, and often hums many of these tunes while playing!
