Well we're not all like that. I mean lots of Americans think all Brits are stiff-upper-lip pompous asses, and while a handful are, most of them are funny as hell and really great to be around. And not all Americans, like I said, are total idiots. Frankly, a few of us would much rather be there than here, and I've decided that as soon as I'm out of school, I'm leaving of this hellhole for Cambridge. America was once a nice place. Now it's a war-obsessed looney bin with all sorts of problems...

Horses for courses, people like different things.
The way of life in the USA is completely unsustainable and I generally find Americans annoying, loud and far too nationalistic in their approach.
The British might seem rude, boorish and cold at first, yet they do grow on you. Underneath it all you find a highly self critical and dry witted group of people who are far more down to earth than the Americans on the whole.
I say this as a Brit born and bred now unfortunately living abroad.

Lol thats not a rude hang gesture u idiots! Its used in the army as a hand signal, its means "run" or "on the double"
-
You think fucks this is a double time hand signal! He is obv the top rank on duty and considering how so the other guard was going iam surprised he didnt plant his parade shoe up shoe up his arse! This isnt proof of anything but a guard giving another guard an order!
-
I dare say that the "wanker" sign as many people think it is, is actually "double time" in British army hand signals.
-
how come a few are saying this is not a rude jesture ,its also a joking jesture to call your fellow mate a wanker and hurry it up ,im sure the other guard that was on the recieving end has joked with the other guy while on duty aswell ,whats the big deal ,just cos hes in front of the queen so,hes trained to kill in combat ,how polite would you think hed need to be in a combat situation ,our majesty probarly cals them plokers all the time defo prince philip..
-
@66ska i could be wrong but by the button arrangement on his tunic he looks like a grenadier guard to me.
-
on the double.

This is not a rude gesture, that signal in the british army, and Means "On The double" (Or Quickly) he should have did it by his side, but he looks like he is an officer, giving an order.
On the other hand (No pun intended) He mightr be taking the piss.

That's not a rude gesture
I've heard that tourists visiting the Palace think it's cute to harass the ceremonial guards. (Allowing that to occur, in itself, sets up a very negative workplace environment.) The situation should be monitored by regular police who can deal with inappropriate behavior. As for the accusation of a rude gesture --- I don't see it. What I saw in the poor quality YouTube video was a normal hand-motion to move it along. To suggest otherwise is just heaping abuse onto insult.

I guess you heard wrong! I guess you have not been out to Buckingham Palace or know anything about the Sentry Guards. At the Palace you are a good 150 feet back behind railings and police are at the gates. They cannot even hear you! The guards are not to move or talk. The full 9 minute video will show the guard messing around the entire time. The British Ministry of Defence has already shot down your move on motion!

Good for you. You are probably some conservative Republican fascist who thinks Dubya is doing a good job! And is rooting for bombing Iran. I'll side with this working man. This guard is getting a raw deal over an ambiguous, poor clality video.

Sorry about the video quality. This was filmed 14 years ago on a VHC tape then transferred to a VHS tape in 1995. Then survived in a house that was destroyed by Hurricane Charley in 2004. Then in 2007 transferred into MP4 format then transferred to Youtube.Youtube then changed the format to show you.

Watch the FULL 9 minute Video. The Sentry Guards are the British Elite Soldiers. If our Elite Soldiers at the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington Cemetery would do something like that ...would you stand up to the working soldier there on duty? I guess you haven't been there either. I can post that video too.
