Late in the 3rd quarter of the 1979 AFC Championship game the Houston Oilers appear to tie the game at 17 in Pittsburgh, only to have the referees rule otherwise. Announcers Dick Enberg and Merlin Olsen are unanimous in their opinion: this was an Oilers touchdown. Vernon Perry did have a big interception in that game, for the Oilers' only touchdown as a matter of fact.

Vernon Perry did "rear his ugly head again, and made another big pick." A pick-6 as it turned. The Oilers' only touchdown in this game came when Perry intercepted Terry Bradshaw on the Steelers' first possession and returned it for a touchdown.

In the end, it didn't matter whether Renfro caught it or not. After Fritsch's FG, the Steelers beat the crap out of the Oilers.

On this day, Earl Campbell gained 15 yards on 17 carries. That was the Houston offense in 1979.

The NFL should have adopted replay years before it did. This wasn't the only blown call that cost a team.
