This video was shot on December 04, 2006 during the 3A Division Championships held at the Long Beach Veterans Stadium in Southern California. As the top 10 qualifying bands slugged it out for 1st Place, Chino Hills was the 9th band to perform that evening. By then the stadium was packed. Parents and family members showed up in force to provide a very loud and warm reception as the Chino Hills Husky Band marched on to the field. As the crowd settled down, the judges announced, Chino Hills High School you may now take the field in 3A Finals Competition. Up until finals, Chino Hills was undefeated in the Southern SCSBOA region, and San Marcos (Santa Barbara) was undefeated in the Northern Region, and this was the first time that the two bands squared off, with San Marcos the defending champions. As our show started, it got off to a bit of a rough start (bad case of nerves), but as the show progressed you could feel the students relax and they finished up with what turned out to be a 1st place performance. Taking 1st was a huge accomplishment when considering that 1. Last year Chino Hills was ranked near the bottom, 2. This year we were breaking in a new Band Director, Mr. Justin Wallin, and 3. To His credit, Mr. Wallin put together this award winning show at the last minute while simultaneously ramping up on a new job that required him to work with a completely new group of band students, staff and parents. The combined effort of everyone was nothing short of amazing, and with Mr. Wallin leading the way, our effort moved Chino Hills from the bottom to the top in a single year. Please enjoy our award winning performance of our show called Incantation featuring musing from Cirque Du Solei.

  • Your right, there were only 10 bands, the 16 was a typo that I will correct ASAP. However, San Marcos High School is from Santa Barbara, CA, which is about 200 miles (3-4 hour car ride) North West of Chino Hills. Thats why the two bands never competed until finals. To everyone in the greater Los Angeles & San Diego areas, Santa Barbara is definitely considered to be Up North. Thanks again.

  • In 2006, there were only 10 finalists for each class in SCSBOA. It was bumped up to 12 in 2008. WBA is 15. Don't know where you pulled 16 from.

And, San Marcos is in southern California...

Look it up on a map. There are two San Marcos Highs in California, and this being the smaller one, is from Santa Barbara. (The other San Marcos HS is in the city of San Marcos in the San Diego area) Santa Barbara is still completely southern California, my dear.

    Hi Haylie. :P
