Judy Garland singing 'Then You've never Been Blue' in 1959. I have used lots of new clips and pictures. I have added 'Danny Boy as a video response because it is another sadder song she sang.
I'm sorry I couldn't seem to get this video to flow like Danny Boy, I found this one very difficult. I hope it is ok!

  • Garland proved with this 1957 "Alone" LP (thanks also to masterful arranging by Gordon Jenkins) that Sinatra had absolutely nothing on her with incomparable performances of torch or saloon songs. Sinatra once said of Garland, "Technically, she wasn't a singer." Maybe that was taken out of a larger context in which he explained further exactly what he meant by that statement, but Judy had a uniquely emotional voice that could soar you into joyfulness or throw you into her own despair. A legend.

  • Judy's music is timeless.

  • wow .... great Judy... a very legend!

  • @marcyhead "Technically, she wasn't a singer" doesn't even make sense, so why repeat it? And what would Sinatra know about vocal technique, anyway??? He was probably loaded if and when he made the statement, and prolly more than a bit jealous, as well. (When Martin and Sinatra were Judy's guests on CBS, she wiped the floor with both of them, and then washed the ceiling and walls with them, too!)

  • @monroenorma sinatra's voice got better after 1949! he was a fantastic singer I love Judy though

  • @marcyhead Sinatra had great admiration of Judy's talent as a singer; he was speaking of his opinion on both Judy and Ella Fitzgerald, regarding their breath control. If we want to get technical; Sinatra was never the singer Garland was; the man had great style and phrasing, but after 1949 or so, the voice was not that great.

  • Heartbreaking and true

  • I'm blue tonight. Thank you, Ms. Garland.

  • I never knew of this song she recorded. I think it's perfection! Expertly rendered and marvellous orchestration.

  • One of my absolute favorite Judy songs.
