Tomas Flores, Candidate CalSTRS Board of Trustees. This is a brief presentation on my experience and qualifications to serve on the CalSTRS Board of Trustees and carry out my fiduciary duties. A request to all Defined Benefit members to make an informed decision when they vote for a candidate in this October-November 2011 election is included.

@parlorman I am working with my union, through our PAC's new ad hoc committee on pension issues and a sub committee on on-going pension issues member education. Fewer defined benefit members voted in this election than four years ago. Fewer eligible total--many have been laid off or left the profession-- still, too few are aware of the significance and importance of a board which actually performs it fiduciary duty with rigor, I will speak/write to defend our pension actively.

Tomas, I was disappointed to hear that you were not elected to this position. None of our current board members have any financial or banking education or background that I am aware of?? I see you and I are a minority in the K-12 teaching world. We both have MBA's which is an anomaly in the world of teaching. I earned mine from the UCD Graduate School of Management. What is your next move?
