The Forbidden City was the imperial palace during the Ming and Quing dynasties. It covers 74 hectares surrounded by a ten meter wall and consists of 9,999 buildings. It is divided into 2 sections. The outer Court where the emperor exercised his power over the nation and the inner Court where he lived with his royal family. The Gate of the Terrestrial Tranquillity leads to the Emperial Garden.
