Im currently learning on a cheapy mahalo ukulele and i have to say mine sounds ALOT better than yours, i was uning the original strings for about 2 weeks and eventually they started to sound okay but i decided to replace them with the aquila strings as recomended by almost every uke players, and the difference was amazing, im looking to upgrade to a kala KA15 uke in the next couple of weeks as im not quite ready to spend over £100 on a ukulele.
Great vids btw!

I've been using Diamond Head with my students to get them started. They're not as common as some of the other cheaper ukes, but 9 out of 10 of them are pretty good for $30 local (1 out of 10 sounds like a block of wood so you have to try them out).

I've got a stagg...It was double cheaper than fender, and that were only two choices around here..When i learn to play i will probably upgrade :P

@paulmay7777 THey are decently priced and are great for beginners. i think you would want to upgrade to something like a flea or kamoa and anything else a little nicer after about a year, give or take, if you're really into playing.
Hi I ordered a Lanikai LU11 which comes with Aquilas on so I wondered what you think about Lanikai's? I think it should be here today, am just ridiculously excited lol

@paulmay7777 The Lani's are pretty good beginner instruments - I'd say they are on a par with or bit above the Makala, but very similar.

Whats the makala like with the original strings though?

@paulmay7777 To be honest, to keep the price down, the original strings that come on Makalas are pretty terrible. It really does benefit from adding Aquila strings. In fact, out of all the cheap end ukes, this one gets a lift from Aquilas more than any other in my opinion
