I don't understand why all of you are arguing so much...each of these guitarists does something completely different and they have respect for each other.

John Mayer is the best technical player.

Derek Trucks is undoubtedly the most skilled player.

And neither of them can play with as much soul and passion as John Frusciante puts in his music.

Trucks and Mayer are skilled guitarists that write songs that blues enthusiasts want to hear. John Frusciante makes art. His guitar playing is more about discovering new sounds and textures and ways to apply them to different scenarios. Also, most of the brilliance of his guitar playing is the layering he does. He'll have songs with 5-10 guitar parts that work seamlessly together to make an impressive whole. Very few guitar players work like that.

@cheesicles You're right. Frusciante studied blues but he didn't play it a lot and I think these guys are a lot better in that category. I think Frusciante is untouchable in funk though and he is one of the better guitar players who emphasize melody. Seriously I hate comparing guitar players, it's like comparing chocolate bars. It all depends on someone's taste.

the thing is... frusciante can't keep up with John Mayer nor Derek Trucks (in last 4 mins) his rhythm guitar is OKAY and his solo is good and all, but he is no where near the leagues of the other two (atleast in blues). Plus his solo is poop compared to Derek Truck's slide solo. Anyone can copy Frusciante's solo, but no one can mimic Derek's tone with the slide.
