@TheStJames23 So you saw the car that was written off. Like I said three times, insurance compnaies write hundreds of cars off every day. When it is a total loss, they look at the Kelly Blue Book (or other source), to determine what it is worth. Then they give the ownder a check. There must have been a reason why they decided that your friend's car was only worth 4000. They told your friend the reason.
Why would ANYONE take 4000 for a car that they owe 18000 on?

@TheStJames23 Like I said in my original post. There is more to your story. No insurance company would tell a person that their 15,000-20,000 dollar car is worth 4,000. So your friend did not give you all the information. Or the car was not written off. Don't blame the insurance company for your friend's a) lie or b) stupidity or c) both.

@TheStJames23 I know it was worth more. You have misunderstood. The guy said that the car was worth 6 times what they gave him for it, due to some problems with the interior. ROFLMFAO
What would you say to the insurance company if they offered you 4,000 for a car you KNOW is worth 20,000?? I'd get them to explain the reason. Unless the car's interior was MISSING or the guy had the same smelly valet as the onein Seinfeld, this story is bull.

@mapache11 well that car is worth $3,900 today according to the Canadian black book (wwwDOTcanadianblackbookDOTcom/black-book-values/index/display/neworused/used/year/1999/make/Infiniti/postalcode/T5A3M7/model/G20/mode/marketanalysis/trim/Luxury/style/4D%20Sedan/). So wind that back 11 years. I'd say $18,000 is a good estimate. And he isn't the smartest person on the block, he could have just accepted what they offered.

No, you don't give up any rights with a license. You are bound by law to have a license to operate your car on a public road. And your affidavit sound like a pleading of ignorance of the law, which is no excuse.

@TheStJames23 You said the car was written off. When that happens, the adjuster looks at the value the car had when the accident happened. The insurance company always tells the customer what the value of the car is before cutting the check. If the customer disagrees, they have every opportunity to prove what they think it is worth. Either your story is a lie, your friend is an idiot and the car was not worth what he thought.

@mapache11 It had something to do with the condition of the interior of the car, not entirely sure exactly what though. I did however see the cheque that he recieved, and I forgot the detail of his $1000 deductable. So total was 4000, he only saw 3000. And whether you believe it or not, that doesn't change the facts that he's been driving for years without insurance, and had ~$14000 in negative equity.

I LIVE IN NH INS IS NOT REQUIRED, UNLESS ORDERED BY A COURT, BECAUSE YOU HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT & UN ABLE TO PAY FOR DAMAGES OR HARM DONE. I AM LAID BACK, BUT YOU TICK ME OFF. IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO SCREW THE SYSTEM YOU ARE F*CKING EVERYONE ELSE! THOSE WITHOUT AUTO INSURANCE COST THOSE WITH MORE. I WAS HIT BY A DRUNK DRIVER W/ NO INSURANCE,I SPENT MANY WASTED HOURS IN A COURTROOM, HE WAS ORDERED TO PAY $50 A MONTH, I NEVER GOT ONE DIME. SO YA WE NEED INS, BECAUSE OF DEAD BEATS LIKE YOU.
