Decided to start my holidays by taking a divert through the Phoenix Park.....

if you go down to the woods today, you're sure of a big surprise!!

Two balers making short work of a light crop of hay in the Phoenix Park. The hay was cut on some large open tracts of land - I was informed that the hay was destined for Dunboyne in County Meath. In total, I believe that there was 600 acres cut

  • Nice 1

  • @rakerman Thanks! I was thrilled to have left the camcorder in the car!!

  • Nice one Phluter. I often wondered what they did with the grass. It would definitely be an interesting days work!

  • @vincenzolorenzo I saw a bit of baling going on years ago in the park but that was in my pre-youtube days! The return would be great(max of 6 bales to the acre) but when you consider that there is a herd of deer wandering around, then to get anything off the park is good. The hay was nice qaulity, bone dry - the sort of stuff that sheep would love. If only I could have put a bale or two into the back of the Polo........!!!!!

  • @PhluterGoode ya theres huge sweeps of ground at the bk of the cricket pav over that direction near the american emb and twords the aras

  • @balmesh I suppose you could say that!

  • @CORRIFARM That spot is right in the middle of the park, just off the main road that runs from the Parkgate Street end up to the Castleknock gates. When I was travelling home from work, I went straight through the 1st roundabout near the zoo & the 1st left off the next roundabout(the one at the Aras).

  • To PhluterGoode

Thanks Kev. Something good must be coming out of the recession, then? . . Alan

  • What side of the park is that kev . And yes some right gits round that area and across de liffey

  • @balmesh There was at least 1000 bales on the flat in various parts of the park and most of these were being collected. But there's only so many bales that two loaders and trailers can collect before the local gits jump on them!!! That piece where I recorded the clip is less than 200 metres from Aras an Uachtarain(Office of the President) which for me makes this clip almost surreal - never did I expect to see something like hay being saved within the city bounds!! Kev.
