Alexa Miller, of Shelby High School, recites "Time Does Not Bring Relief: You All Have Lied" by Edna St. Vincent Millay.
Alexa was one of 28 students that were semi-finalists and finalists in the statewide Poetry Out Loud competition at the Museum of History in Raleigh in a program coordinated by the NC Arts Council.
Sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, Poetry Out Loud encourages high school students to memorize and recite poetry while mastering public speaking skills, building self-confidence and learning about their literary heritage.
good reading. but i think that Edna St. Vincent Millay would have wanted this to be a very quiet reading - almost indifferent. accusing without anger. bereaved - an yet unaffected. grieving - and yet composed. i can't do any better than what has been portrayed - trust me - but when i read her poems, that's how i hear it in my head and in my heart.

That's how I feel about my husband's death.
Everybody tells me I should be over it, b/c it's been so long. That was two weeks after he was killed.
Well, it's nearly 8 years later and I still "miss him in the weeping of the rain."
