@TheTractorJake no the bell housing was made for a 353 and a SM420. This was used in Chevy step vans sold in the USA and Studebaker trucks in the 60's You could get a factory Detroit diesel 353 in Chevy vans and also in Chevy pickup trucks in the 1960's . Studebaker also offered the 353 in its 1 ton flat bed trucks. I seen two Chevy 3/4 ton pick up trucks around year 1966 with a factory 353 Detroit both was over sea's . Both was ex US military trucks.

@MotelCambodia do you have any clue if theres any factory 453's that you can bolt either an sm420 or an sm465 up to? im not very smart with the detroits, but im a real big chevy fan, and in that aspect i really know what im doing, and i want to swap in a 453 into a 64 stepside 4x4. any advice?

@TheTractorJake yes a 453 has the same bell housing as 353 . 453 was a factory option for the 1.5 ton chevy trucks. i dont know what trans they used.
