Americans waited to be attacked before they took action in WW2, they waited for african americans to claim their civil rights themselves, and now they're waiting for other countries to solve climate change for them. Without a real wakeup-call, the US won't do shit, even if their president wants to.

LOL, you were replying to the 9-11 conspiracy theorist, I think. Honest mistake, what with the kinks youtube needs to work out (replies not linked to parent comments, etc.).
To me the point is, after waiting far too long, America seems to FINALLY be on the ball and focused on Green energy. And there's tremendous power in that level of commitment...slow in coming, but (I believe) unstoppable once started.
The metaphor of America as a clumsy, well-meaning giant is...unsettling.

Arguably, once we committed to WW2 and space, it happened. Nothing in this vid suggests we did it first, only that once we got the will we made it happen.

Having many die in a war is not always the worst thing imaginable. In some cases the alternative is far worse: A Europe ruled by Hitler or the Pacific controlled by an aggressive imperial Japanese regime. Sadly there are times when war is the answer because the alternative is even worse. Had not there been lives lost on the beaches of Normandy, far more would have been lost in the long run.
