Info on the alleged "2012 incandescent ban": http://members.misty.com/don/incban.html

Philips EcoVantage are halogen incandescent light bulbs designed to meet the new 2012 efficiency standards, with brighter lighting at lower wattages and longer service life -- all without the disadvantages of compact fluorescents. And thanks to the shape of the halogen capsule inside, the bottom of the glass bulb stays cool to the touch.

EcoVantage bulbs are available in regular Soft White as well as less yellowey "Natural Light" (similar to GE Reveal), in a variety of wattages. So far I've been able to find them on the shelf at A&P and Wegman's, plus you can order them online.

  • In your opinion, do you think this 43 watt bulb is cool enough that it will pose no shattering risk if I use it very close to a freezing window?

(I want to place a lamp on a windowsill, so the bulb will be only 1-2 inches away from nearly frozen window glass. I'm looking for a bulb that stays cool enough so that I don't have to worry about the temperature clashes causing either the bulb or the window to shatter.)

  • @DOWNwithDERRIDA Considering that incandescent light bulbs work just fine outdoors in below-freezing weather, I don't think you'll have any problems.

  • nfo on the alleged "2012 incandescent ban....

Is not alledged. Its going to happen so buy all the incandesants you can while you can.

  • @Checkerholic Incandescent bulbs will NOT be banned. Some will be required to be 25% more efficient, while others will be exempted. Read the full details on the link provided in the video description!

  • @vwestlife You are right to a degree the bulbs listed below are exempt.acording to your link. Acording to the list the bulb you are showing in the video will be banned! Flashlight lamps Automotive bulbs 28 and 14 volt aircraft bulbs Bicycle light bulbs Most vehicle light bulbs in general Nearly all electronic equipment indicator lamps Most halogen lamps 35 watts or less Nearly all halogen bulbs 20 watts or less All other low voltage lamps in general 230, 240, and 277 volt lightbulbs
  • @Checkerholic No, Philips EcoVantage bulbs are specifically designed to meet the new efficiency standard.

  • CFLs make me want to kill somebody. I'm sick of them. I don't want ugly doctor's office / school lighting and nasty mercury. I'll take my good old incandescents. These are WAY better than those mercury savers tho.

  • @stickedU actually they wont ilegal. they've made incandescents now that are 50% energy efficient and there is still time to make them more efficient than that. it doesnt matter to me either way cuz i have over 800 boxes of incandescents. so the jokes on u...fool

  • @noreaga12326 Thats right fool.......this is only the start of it. Eventually Halogens will be illegal too.

  • @vwestlife i recently read somewhere that theres another efficiency standard coming in the year 2020 where light bulbs have to be more efficient then the ones that are in the market after 2014. they said that halogens might not fit the standards. it would suck if they ban them cuz cfls and leds suck. do u think that by then, they'l be able to make halogens more efficient?
