The accident occurred during November 2006, onboard the HMAS Kanimbla which was stationed off Fiji -- in the heat of the coup. The helicopter is a Black Hawk. The inquiry released the footage recently, and cited poor weather conditions and a difficult approach as the cause. There were 2 fatalities, the Captain and a Trooper. Captain Mark Bingley's helmet apparently snagged on an antenna while the Black Hawk was rapidly sinking, and he was not able to remove it until a depth of 30 meters. He could not be revived. SAS Trooper Joshua Porter suffered injuries during impact, and sank with the helicopter to a depth of about 2500 meters. The wether conditions were a 10-15 knot (18-27kph) tailwind. As seen, the impact with the deck caused the tail rotor to break off, which caused the resulting spin - called a 'vortex ring'.

  • I think its disgusting that people feel the need to fill this video with filt, it is so disrespectful, Two amazing men lost there lives, these were there last moments leaving behind children(unborn children),wifes, family, and friends, You obviously have never lost a loved one before! This video shouldnt even be on here but it couldnt be stopped, Therefore people should have a little bit of compassion & respect. If you've got nothing nice to say, Dont say it at all.

Rest in peace Josh and mark

  • I feel the tragedy here is all the armchair warriors and te media trying to crucify the pilot.

These crews and the pilots in particular need to push the limit.

In Nam half the dust offs would have failed if you flew by the book!

One can say well that is in action, but its a bit fucking late to start pushing the limit when your under fire.

Mark Bngley and Josh Porter died doing thier job.

While fuckall helps the families, as Aussies we should be proud of them! particularly the pilot.
