TAB:

Technique: chicken picking/ alternate picking/ legato/ double stops/ open strings

(check out my lesson #2 tutorial if you dont know what is chicken picking)

This country solo is built on an 8 bars chords progression that could be repeated.

Here the last two bars are the outro.
I tryed to demonstrate differents techniques.
On each chord (above the tab) I play a mix of mixolydian and blues scale.
So check out the diagram I paste.
http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x290/bubsy_07/bluesmixo_scale.jpg

A Mixolydian notes: A, B, C#, D, E, F#, G

A Blues Scale notes: A, C, D, D#, E, G

I started out with country licks, mixing those two scales.
I add also passing notes and open strings. The plucked notes with a clean tone give

some dynamic and twang feel. All you have to do is to repeat this recept over each

chord. For this solo, each single bar is a lick that you can practice independently and

include it in your own playing.

Lets have a closer look at this very solo:
First bar. On the strings skippings, I use chicken picking.
The 2nd bar is alternate picking, I repeat the same pattern over two octaves.
Bar 4 is a Danny Gatton lick, mix of chromatics and pentatonics.
Bar 5 needs strength in the fingers with lots of pull-offs/ hammer-ons. I descend a E

major arpeggio and add passing notes.
Bar 6, alternate picking. Mixing mixolydian and chromatic scale...
Bar7, double stops which mean some lead notes are double notes. I play chicken

picking.
Bar 8 is a kind of blues turn around. Each note must sound independently so do not let

ring the strings. It is pretty challenging to play, like fast sweep picking arpeggios.
Bar 9&10 are simply chords to fill the outro.
A decent clean channel and some hot pickups do the rest of the job...
Hope you enjoyed the farm animals sounds which add a genuine country touch.
See you for next lesson!
