I'm sure there are ignorant people out there who think you are starving your dog! LOL

@chanfoli I have those problems with my Saluki, albeit Azawakhs stay a bit thinner than Salukis. My pup is a tad too thin for the breed, but hasn't filled out yet (still growing). I get asked if he's a rescue all the time. Definitely a healthy dog here!

@idaviruma actually that dog is pretty close to bilal's condition most of the time. The hip bones are there the angle of that video just does not show them much, dogs do tuck their gut in at dinner, treat, snack time as well and show more ribs than they do when they are out prancing around and scenting. You are fixating on a non issue. Go away. Here let me help. You have been blocked. Goodbye.

look up Taussit n'Kel Dinnik, Azawakh imported from Niger, part 1 , thats an adult dog in good shape.

@idaviruma - yes I know what Azawakh puppies look like, their natural condition is closer to other breeds. There is no logic in comparing the condition of puppies to mature adults. The natural tendency to carry fat reserves and the proportions of bones change with age. I understand that it is difficult for some people to look at thin bony forms and see them as a natural, happy, healthy and beautiful state of being, but it is possible. We are probably not going to convince one another.

I understand that its normal to see some rib on sighthounds, especially these dogs, but theres a line between fit thin and emaciated looking. I cant seem to post video links, but if you look up azawakh puppies playing, they look fit and healthy.

@idaviruma - your blanket standard does not fit azawakh as I know them. I have seen a few Azawakh whose hip bones were hidden under a thick layer of fat and these dogs look far from healthy.
How many times has someone called the animal authorities on you because the dog looks hungry? I know that they're naturally very bony and skinny but people here don't seem to understand that. So, I'm curious.

@KatrinaDi - never, that I know of. But when you have Azawakh it is best to stay low-key. I have taken Bilal to events and had people act as if they would report me, asking for specifics as to how much he eats etc. or asking me how long I have had him since I "rescued" him. Normal looking Azawakh do not fit into the general public's idea of what dogs look like, just another reason to avoid close minded people, especially when it comes to rare breeds like Azawakh
