IN BENGALI & ENGLISH W/ ENGLISH SUBTITLES

Soon after completing his timeless Apu Trilogy, Ray wrote his first original screenplay. Played out in real time, several complex family dramas intersect in the landscape of the Himalayan foothills, allowing the Bengali auteur to examine the class and generational differences of postcolonial India while celebrating the hopes of a society in transition. (1962)

  • Something about the flute music/ soundtrack of the film-

Satyajeet Ray once called a young boy to his hotel room in Darjeeling early morning and asked him to play any music on flute that comes to his mind looking the beautiful Kanchanjungha Mountain. Boy played flute for 25 minutes and Ray secretly recorded the music. The same music was used in the film. The talented Boy was Gopal Yonjan, Darjeeling-born Famous Nelpali singer, composer and lyricist.

  • one of my favourite of rays :)

  • Another beauty by Satyajit Ray, Dada apna ke ashesh dhanna baad..

    Thank you.

  • certainly not as intense as some of his other films, nor as dark, but still one of my favorite. it's so beautifully done, such a fluid story and wonderful characters. :)

  • This movie is very advanced for that period. Actually till now i thought this movie was taken in 1973-5. Remarkably poetic in its narration. Truly a visionary Ray's first-rate job!!
