In the state of Tennessee, people with developmental disabilities other than mental retardation have virtually no state-funded services or supports. The state legislature created legislation to provide these services when Title 33 was revised in 2000, but no money was ever allocated and no services have ever been supplied.
Michelle's son has Muscular Dystrophy. Last year, their family expended over $26,000 for critical services for her son that were not covered by insurance. The limited programs that were once available to families such as Michelle's have now been cut. This is Michelle's request for the state of Tennessee to Fulfill the Promise of State Title 33.
