Valparaíso is a major city in Chile and one of that country's most important seaports and an increasingly vital cultural center in the hemisphere's Pacific Southwest. The city is located in central Chile, where it is capital of the Region of Valparaíso. Although Santiago is Chile's official capital, Valparaiso houses the National Congress. Built upon dozens of steep hillsides overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Valparaíso boasts a labyrinth of streets and cobblestone alleyways, embodying a rich architectural and cultural legacy. Valparaíso is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is often considered to be one of Latin Americas most intriguing urban areas. Although technically only Chiles 6th largest city, with an urban area population of 263,499 (275,982 in municipality), the Greater Valparaíso metropolitan area, including the neighboring resort city of Viña del Mar, is the second largest in the country (892,143 inhabitants).

After 16 days at sea I disembarked the Star Princess in Valparaiso. We drove the historical city on our way to Santiago. Unfortunately the only view I got of the city was from the bus window.

  • Amo Valparaíso, pero vivo en Santiago desgraciadamente. Y por cierto, pésima pronunciación del inglés del guía turístico.

  • I see plenty of Trolleybuses in this video :-), what sort of bus was the camera aboard?

  • call me! i can do a better tour of MY CITY lol :)

  • I'm Chilean and I can tell you that the guide you took was sooo stupid

  • I'm a fan of your videos from Valparaiso, Chile and a former cruise ship crew member. It's a sheme for me the way the tour guide expleined to you the city. For example at Plaza de la Victoria (4:00) please note that the 4 estatues and the fountain are trophies from the Pacific War as expleined by the ghide but from 1879, each one of the estatues mean one season of the year.
