Second night, second video of me playing with the 'House of Cards' data ;)

This time i took the LIDAR city scans, sticked them right into my 'One Million Particles' app and tried out some different rendering effects. The physics simulation is working now as well and generates some cool effects. All in real-time of course, it would be no fun otherwise ;))

As usual, these are just some screen captures of me playing around. It's not synced yet and i should customize the physics for way cooler and more fitting effects. i.e. work in progress...

A BIG thanks to Radiohead. I love you guys!!
More to come...

OK, for anyone interested: Unlike the web-viewer, this is the FULL point cloud data visualized in real-time, with particle physics also working on the full data (+- 1 million points). It's running in C# and DirectX, on 2007/2008 hardware actually!
I use mouse, keyboard and PS3 gamepad to control everything, motion, color, physics, etc.. Also, while it's running i can switch to both the animated face scene and the two 'city' scans. So, in theory i could re-record the whole music video, LIVE!!
Next i'll try the 3D scanning in real-time as well; then things will really get crazy. With a simple, hacked beamer i could make INVISIBLE (infra-red) structured light. This would enable LIVE scanning in 3D of the band in concert, while generating House of Cards style 3D visuals!!

Radiohead, i'd love to do this on one of your tours ;)

  • Very nice. I struggled to handle the data when I was working with it last year. I'll try again this Summer with some actual technique.

  • @spenceisadork it's not too hard (with some help from Google). Just pass everything to the GPU and you'll be fine :)

Currently I can draw up to 7-8 of these 'one-million-particle' layers simultaneously, with one or two of them doing physics... Long live gaming hardware!!

  • Really cool. I downloaded the data yesterday and started playing around with it. So far I've made a crude trasnlation of the face data to heightmap and rendered it. Next stop will be something like the demo in your video. At least, so I hope.

  • @BurekFr0mSPACE good work man. There's loads of laserscans online but you'll have to search hard for good ones. Check out my latest video for more visuals, including real-time Kinect scanning!

  • hehe thx guys ;) love you too

  • You are a true genius !!! : )

    Excellent work : )

  • @lievenvv cool, I am a little bit concerned that when I leave school I'm not going to have access to all these great resources (quadro cards, prman, other specialist software) but if you're doing this on a gaming card I should be able to do some cool stuff.

  • @djbunion thx man. next week i am actually going to do this, first gig :) lot has changed since this video, new clips coming soon. (from the party!?) anyway check out my other vids here too! Bless

  • Great exercise

  • Really cool! Me and Mat like you and what you do! Cheers!
