South Rampart Street Parade - Chris Barber and his Band 1982.
This tune was first recorded by Bob Crosby. Bob Crosby led one of the hottest big bands of the 1930s, a unit that although filled with swing stylists could play Dixieland with the joy and spontaneity of a small group.
One of the hottest groups these days is Britain's Chris Barber Band. Chris started his band in the early fifties and even today, some fifty years later the band is still on top of the scene. I just checked his gig list for September and October 2007. Some 35 concerts over a period of 2 months. Who can claim that in the jazz world. Just unbelievable.

In 1982 the band consisted of Chris Barber trombone, Pat Halcox trumpet, Ian Wheeler clarinet/alto, John Crocker clarinet/alto/tenor, Johnny McCallum banjo/guitar, Roger Hill guitar, Vic Pitt bass and Norman Emberson drums

  • Had the joy of seeing him and acker Bilk on stage on thursday Night. I met chris in the foyer and had a conversation with him. He's a very nice man. Well deserving of fame unlike these sponges that are pouring out crap rap!

  • this is the best version I have ever heard of that New Orleans classic.

  • Chris Barber has performed wonderfully over the years even back in the 60's when he was touring the world.

  • First time I saw Chris was this band !

  • South Rampage Street Fuck Music.

  • Miss Monty Subnshine on clarinet.

  • So happy!! :D ^_^

  • @glennestey I think you're right. A little bit of clarinet thrown in here and there would have been great

  • Nice, but severely lacking without a clarinet. Just not the same.

  • For a great rendition of this number listen to "The Dukes of Dixieland" on YouTube.

  • Magnifique !

C'est la meilleur version que j'ai jamais entendue. Le tempo est parfait. Le jeu du trombone est remarquable.

    Merci
