I was shocked to see this only charted at #95 on the pop charts, cause I remember hearing this a whole lot in the summer of 69

The Treme cover is Dr. John fronting Dirty Dozon, but this is the original with The Meters!

Allen Toussaint

@RainBeauRhyder It's awesome, but I think Treme played the Dirty Dozen Brass Band's version.

I heard this on Treme on HBO this week when Davis was DJ'ing and I had to find it! Thanks for posting! Lee Dorsey has always been great!

I can pretty much vouch for the fact that most northern soulers know who Lee Dorsey is; he's not a rare artist after all
-
Did this version come before the Lou Donaldson version?

@vinegaroon1 You are right - Toussaint wrote and produced (along with Marshall Sehorn), almost all of Dorsey's biggest hits - I have all his 45s and Allen Toussaint's name is on almost all of them. Both great New Orleans artists! ***DAVE♫♫♫♫DJ***
The BEastie Boys had a lyric in one song that said 'Everything I do is Funky like Lee Dorsey'. I always knew who Lee was, but somehow never knew this track and that the lyrics was a direct reference to a Dorsey SONG. Outstanding. i love it! Ya-Ya! ;)
