Maybe because of the results of his 4 first TDF where he had showed no abilities to be a Grand Tour contenders?
Have you compare Lance's begining career with other TDF winners?
Merckx, Hinault, Coppi, Anquetil, Poulidor, Zootelmelk... were all seen as great riders at their first TDF, they were able to ITT and climb. Lance was just able to stay in gruppeto before DNF.

you know, for a while i thought there could be a better song in this...but theres just something about this song that will alwayes strike an athletic/achievement chord in my heart..long live Armstrong.

@smithsil To win a flatland stage is never a sign to win a futur TDF ! If he had TT or climbed mountain like goats that would have been a better agreement.
Unfortunately for Lance's followers, he was an average TT and a very bad climbers, just able to ride with gruppetto : around 20mn delay in each major mountain stages of TDF !

@u368 I have compared Lance's beginning career with other TDF winners.
At 21 he was one of the youngest cyclists to win a stage in the tour de france.
In the same season, he was the UCI world and nation Road Race Champion. Hows that for an early career? And dont give me that horse $hit about how you cant compare it to the TDF. Here is a partial list World Road Race Champions who have also won the TDF:

lance is a super sportsman. I come from germany, land of Jan Ullrich, but do you really think that Lancer never doped?!?!? Of course he trained very hard for his wins.
I cant help myself, I think he was doped ,too....

Well, in cycling it's hard to say who uses or used dope and who isn't. I just judge the cyclists on facts. I believe that someone, like Armstrong, who hasn't been tested positive on dope, is clean. Otherwise you can suspect everyone...

Well, you're right about that, but I think that race belongs to his biggest achievements, because he catched Ullrich in that race, taking more than a minute at him. Thanks for the compliments.
