Dr. Samadi discusses a new test developed in China that offers an easier and safer alternative to traditional Amniocentesis (or "Amnio") testing. This new method relies on a simple blood sample taken from a pregnant woman, which can be used to see their unborn child's genetic information. Like an Amnio this allows Doctors to be able to see if an unborn child has a chromosomal or genetic disorder. Although the risks of miscarriage associated with Amnio are low this new method of testing eliminates those risks all together.

Dr. Samadi also discusses a new diet pill called Contrave that has recently been approved. The medication is a mix of an existing anti-depressant called Bupropion and a medication to combat addiction called Naltrexone, and works by controlling a person's appetite.

Dr. Samadi warns that historically the risks of diet medications far outweigh their benefits. These risks include cardiac arrest, stroke, increased blood pressure, and heart palpitations. The only other FDA approved diet medication is Xenical, which prevents the absorption of fat by the body. It's considered safe despite some liver toxicity concerns.
