I figured it's time to start gearing up for the holiday season. This is an unusually upbeat arrangement of this particular tune. It is one of Richard Elliott's signature pieces which he often performs at the daily organ recitals on Temple Square during the holidays. He has joked that this arrangement could be called "Bring a Blow Torch, Jeanette Isabella"

The organ is the virtual Notre Dame de Metz Cavaille-Coll for Hauptwerk by Milan Digital Audio.

Hats off to my wife for taking the time to help me film this.

  • I can hear the applause at the end! Wow, that was a great recording, and you played great as well! That's probably one of my favorite hymns! Good registration on a good organ!

  • Thanks, Rob.

  • I have just buyed 4 man and 32 pedalboard and the set up of Notra Dame I want to no how i can add a 5th one on to it as i can only go up to 4 on me software .. reply back thanks

  • I think it's possible, but I don't know how to add a 5th manual through Hauptwerk. Brett Milan would be able to answer your question. Contact him at crumhorn-labs (dot) com.

  • Great playing!

There is a mistake in the music that anyone learning this piece should know about. Look on the last page, second to last score, you'll see the last three measures in 3/8, 6/8, and 5/8. The 6/8 measure is missing a B natural in the pedal. You can see that it's missing because Keith explicitly flatted the following note in the 5/8 measure.

You may notice that Richard Elliott plays the piece correctly, since he was an assistant under Keith at Wanamakers.

    Keep up the good work!

  • Also, if Dr. Elliott's recording indicates "the way it was meant to be played", then the sheet music is missing a G in the pedal at measure 61. I play this piece with both of these "fixes" to the sheet music.

  • Amazing!!! I was wondering where your actually bought the keyboards?

  • Rob, how long did it take you to work up this piece from start to finish, and how much do you practice daily? Is organ your full-time profession? I'm so impressed!

  • Would love to know, Rob, how long did it take you to work up this piece from start to finish, and how much do you practice daily? Is organ your full-time profession? I'm so impressed!

  • This is superb- I heard the great Scott Dettra bring the house down playing this at the end of trhe Washington national cathedral carol service- and if possible that was even better
