Hear the different characteristics of these four lavaliere mics and decide for yourself which one is best for you. Also you'll hear how well these lavs cut against the RØDE NTG-3 shotgun microphone.
Thank you to Guy Cochran and DveStore for providing the Rode Lav and an extra Sennheiser G3 wireless system to do the shootout with.

  • Great test! Thanks for posting it, it's very helpful.

Do you know if the Sennheiser ME2 can be plugged directly into a Zoom H1?

  • @bbcasting It may plug into the H1, but it may slip out easily, as it's jack is designed to be screwed in. With the Rode lavs, you can swap out jacks easily so you can have one for the wireless, one for 3.5mm recorder jacks, XLR, and other brands. Anyway, I rthink it will work, but it could slip out easily.

  • @ChadWork1 Thanks for the quick reply Chad. I have a Sennheiser ME66 that I'll be running into a Zoom H4N as main audio. I'm setting up a lavalier into the Zoom H1 as backup on an actor. Looking for the cheapest option for a usable lavalier and having some trouble. The cheap ATR3350 sounds unusable to me with the hissing sound. The ME2 sounds better than the Rode to me here though and the price is better for the lav alone. I really like the hat tip. Very useful test.

  • @bbcasting If you actually like the ME2 better than the Rode, then there isn't an affordable lav to upgrade to. you should examine what it is you like about the ME-2. Maybe you are thinking that it's lack of body translates to clarity? IMO it's a so-so mic, which is why they give it away. The Rode is more balanced and has a wider range of frequency, without the plasticy high end I hear on the me-2. To each his own!

  • Awesome video! I'm considering the Sanken. They all sound awesome but the Sanken has a presence to it not matched by anyone else. What exactly is the difference between the COS11-X and the COS11-D? By the way, can you get the Sanken with the locking plug for the Sennheiser G3 systems? I looked on their site and I found nothing. Should I just buy the pig tail version? Thanks

    -Owen

P.S. I love my NTG-3. You convinced me to buy it.

  • @OwensDrumming The "X" and the "D" are the same thing. I ordered mine with the sennheiser connection, from DVestore at the link provided in the info. It's a great mic!

  • @ChadWork1 Rode sounds like it has way too much bass for me.

  • The Tram wins hands down. It was the most natural-sounding of the bunch.

  • @ChadWork1 Thanks! I love your vids!

  • One of the best comparisons out there!

    Thousand thanks!
