Swastika

In the West the swastika association with Nazism has largely overshadowed its religious and cultural significance. The word swastika comes from Sanskrit and signifies well being and good luck and it is still used extensively throughout the east as decoration on homes, temples and at festivals. Further more ancient Greeks, Hittites, Celts and even Native Americans also used the symbol. The swastika was subverted and adopted by Adolf Hitler in the 1920s as a symbol for his Nazi party, a meaning which has taken on significance in the west. It's time to clear up the misconception and re-claim the swastika.

In occidente la swastika è associata al nazismo, ciò ha messo in ombra il vero significato religioso e culturale di questo simbolo. La parola swastika deriva dal sanscrito e significa "benessere" e "buona fortuna", è ancora ampiamente utilizzata in tutto l'oriente come decorazione su case, templi e ai festival. Greci, ittiti, celti e persino i nativi americani hanno utilizzato questo simbolo. La swastika è stata usurpata e adottata da Adolf Hitler nel 1920 come simbolo del suo partito nazista ed ora resta questo l'unico significato che ha assunto in occidente. E' ora di chiarire il malinteso e riprenderci la swastika.
