Information on a few controversial aspects of surrogacy.

Two types of carriers:

A TRADITIONAL Carrier typically goes through artificial insemination to achieve the pregnancy. The traditional carrier's egg is used (and therefore she has a biological tie to the child) but agrees to give their rights to the intended parents.

With a GESTATIONAL Carrier, the child is conceived through IVF with the intended parents' sperm and eggs / intended father's sperm and a donor egg / the intended mother's egg and donor sperm / donor eggs and donor sperm selected by the intended parents. The surrogate has no biological tie to the child but offers her womb to carry the baby.

Two types of surrogacy arrangements:

In an ALTRUISTIC Surrogacy, the surrogate acts for the benefit of the intended parent and receives no compensation other than for her medical, clothing, and occasional living expenses during and immediately following the pregnancy.

In a COMMERCIAL Surrogacy, the surrogate is paid a fee by the intended parents to carry their child IN ADDITION TO compensation for medical, clothing, and living expenses. Commercial Surrogacy is illegal in many places.

  • I am getting ready to be a gestational carrier for a couple within a month and a half, and have been trying to find out as much info as I possibly could- so thank you!

  • @1701becky I think what you have done for that couple is absolutely wonderful! Thank you for your comment :)

  • @ashling328 Thanks, I wanted to give facts, but it was hard to be impartial, because I really do think that it is a great option for some couples. I can understand wanting to keep trying IVF before moving on; I completely understand and feel the desire to carry my children and trying everything in my power to do so. I am really hoping for you that no. 2 is all you need!

  • @martusiail Thank you!!

  • @cre8ive2noend Thank you :) I think that you are great for even just wishing you could do it :)

  • @angelsongbaby Thanks, Steph! Surrogacy isn't something for us either, but I still appreciate it as a wonderful option for couples who would consider it :)

  • Eventhough surrogacy is something I probably wouldn't personally do, you did a great video! and I thought you did your research well..Great video!!

  • Wow, very informative! thank you! :) I would do it if I could, for other people.

  • great video really good topic

  • Great video it gives the honest facts. I do think surrogacy is really a good option for people who have tried and exhausted all options to carry their child themselves. It's not a choice to be made easily I've first come to think about it as on option for us 3 years ago. But I'm still not ready to move onto that. My husband wants to get a surrogate in place if IVF no.2 doesn't work. But I want to try 6 IVF cycles first, To know I've tried everything I can to carry my child myself
