Larry Phillips co-founded American Jewish World Service in 1985, the first American Jewish organization dedicated to alleviating poverty, hunger and disease among people across the globe. An individual with a broad sense of Jewish responsibility, Larry, in partnership with co-founder Larry Simon, brought together a group of rabbis, Jewish communal leaders, activists, businesspeople and scholars to form an international development organization inspired by the Jewish imperative to pursue justice.

Over the past 25 years, AJWS has grown from a vision of repairing the world into a leading international development and human rights organization committed to the pursuit of global justice.

Larry continues to be a proud and generous supporter of AJWS. A former board chair, Larry rejoined the AJWS board of trustees in January 2007.
