July 15, 2011 Seattle NAACP Press Conference in the Aftermath of Tanaya Gilbert's Murder

Apologies for the shakey camera work. Seattle NAACP President James Bible and Vice President Gerald Hankerson speak on the recent murder of Gerald's cousin, 19yo Tanaya Gilbert; the very effective work already being done within the black community by organizations like UmojaFest P.E.A.C.E. Center, Village of Hope, Black Prisoners Caucus, People's Institute, Washington CAN and others that goes unacknowledged and unsupported by the City of Seattle; how much more violence there no doubt would be without these un- or underfunded programs; and the challenge to us all to support both the youth and their parents with real opportunities and real community involvement so the parents get some help and the youth have more than empty words backing them up to choose positive culture over negative culture.
