Alec Stewart should've been Captain when Graham Gooch retired. Not Michael Atherton.

This was a fine knock against an attack of high-quality. Stewart was too flashy, IMHO although an attractive batsman. Just not consistently test-class for my liking. No doubt that the (mis)management by Illy and Atherton would have taken a toll on his performances too.
