NY Bill to Declare Abortion a Fundamental Right for Women is Top Legislative Priority for Gov. Spitzer
Pro-choice activists are gathering around the country today to mark the National Day of Appreciation for Abortion Providers. In Albany, New York Governor Eliot Spitzer is addressing the Family Planning Advocates of New York State. Shortly after taking office last year, Spitzer introduced a bill that would declare abortion a fundamental right for women. The bill would also ensure abortion remains legal in New York should the Supreme Court overturn Roe v. Wade. [includes rush transcript]

  • @pirbird14 So you actually believe that fetuses aren't babies? And you do believe that we should kill unborn children to prevent an overpopulated world? Should we force women to have abortions because of that the world is overpopulated? I do believe that children in the womb do feel pain. And even if they did not... would it be right to end their lives? There are children that, because of an illness, can't feel any pain. Would it be right to end their lives?

  • @LadyDoloris "So, before birth, the brain is fetal. But after birth, the brain is the brain of a newborn?"That is correct. I explained why. If you want to know more about the sedative chemicals in the fetal brain, read "The importance of 'awareness' for understanding fetal pain," David Mellor, 2005. " if 80 million babies would walk the earth, shall we continue killing them" Of course not. Babies are not fetuses. And yes, I am sentient.

  • @pirbird14 No, they did not. But they helped some children! So, before birth, the brain is fetal. But after birth, the brain is the brain of a newborn? And you are sentient, believing that a woman should be able to kill her own child? Again, I do not believe that 80 million more babies would walk the earth if we banned abortion. I do believe that people would be more careful. And if 80 million babies would walk the earth, shall we continue killing them for our own good?

  • @LadyDoloris I ssaid there are plenty of older children to adopt. Did the people you know adopt all of them? So, those orphanages are all empty now? Even the ones in third world countries? There's nothing magic about birth. The fetal brain is kept sedated by naturally occurring chemicals, which are neutralized when the newborn takes its first breath outside the womb. Consciousness is requisite for sentience. We are Homo Sapiens, wise man. You can't be wise without first being sentient.

  • @pirbird14 I know people who've adopted older children, and also siblings of the child they first thought of adopting. So the fetus just magically turns into a child at birth? If you do not want children, don't have sex... or sterilize yourself. It's sick to have sex on the cost of another human's life...

  • @LadyDoloris " Because, there are no children to adopt. " There are plenty of older children to adopt. Most couple want a fresh baby that they can mold in their own image. ""If you don't want your child growing inside of you, kill it in a modern way. It's as simple as that"?..." It's better than the old fashioned - coathangers. The fetus, of course, is not a child. If you don't want children, use birth control. If that fails, have an abortion - it's as simple as that.

  • @pirbird14 Well... I know couples who've waited for years to adopt... Because, there are no children to adopt. If you can't take care of a child, you aren't mature enough to have sex. You are certainly not mature enough to have sex if you don't WANT a child, and would kill it if you got pregnant!

"If you don't want your child growing inside of you, kill it in a modern way. It's as simple as that"?...

  • @LadyDoloris Well now, adoption was a possibility in the 1920s, too. However, orphanages were just as full then as they are now; because, adoptive couples are only interested in babies, not in older children who might have personality problems as a result of being raised in an orphanage.

If you don't want the fetus growing in your womb, have a safe, modern abortion. It's as simple as that.

  • @pirbird14 Well, now we don't live in the 1920's. Children can be adopted aswell. There are a lot of families all around the world who've waited for years to adopt a child. If don't feel ready enough to have a child, then don't have sex, it's as easy as that...
