  • Most Reliants burn because of poor maitanence. Because they are made of Fibreglass, fire is much more damaging to them. Plenty of cars have engine fires due to badly maitained fuel systems, split pipe etc....

Most Reliants roll over because vandals roll them.... Oh and by the way, it's a Reliant Robin.

  • Poor wee Reliant robin, they were always easy to laugh at; BUT i never heard anyone say they were unreliable. Surprisingly fun to drive, but a wee bitty dated now i guess! You could tip over a Mercedes to check underneath hee hee!

  • It's reliant Robin not Robin Reliant...nobody says Fiesta Ford do they?

  • to bad it burned down. we would love to have used it for banger racing@!!!!

  • Ive stripped a few reliants down and i used to dispose of the unwanted body by throwing it on the local bonfire on november 5th.

They can easily catch fire due to the build up of petrol fumes in the engine compartment due to fuel evaporation.

  • is portland retained??

  • They do by design require more maintainance than a modern car though. The last Reliant Robin was produced in 2002 on an 02 plate, so they are not really that old. They were produced from 1973 so they had a very long production life, if they were unsafe they would never have got type approval.

  • Thwy don't randomely go up in flames, due to their design, the carburettor is mounted above the exhaust manifold, which if the float sticks and the float chamber overflows can cause fire, the car is fitted with an overflow bowl for this purpose, but again it is only as good as the pipe that connects it up. US cars are prone to fire due to poor electrics, but being metal bodied they aren't as serious as a Reliant.

A well maintained Reliant is a reliable car and a pleasure to own and drive

  • Iconic.
