2011's Tropfest's signature item was 'KEY'.

'Key Suspect' was specifically produced by Empire Films for Tropfest, a short tale about a sweet old lady who visits the local Jewellers to have her wedding ring cleaned. While there she inadvertently drops her house key which is found later by a suspicious looking character. Considering the possibilities the man decides to check out the house. Upon his arrival the sweet old lady is waiting for him ready with his reward.

KEY SUSPECT - a key to crime, lost and found.
introducing; Eileen Nelson, Ron Kingston & David Jones

Filmed, Edited & Directed by Ronald Barkoczy @ the studios of Empire Films Melbourne Australia. http://www.empirefilms.com

  • I love this short film, it has a real classic cinema feel to it. Also one of the best title sequences I have seen for a long time - 'the crime being cut'. The opening scene with the old lady and jeweller reminds me of something from a Hitchcock classic. Congratulations! I look forward to seeing your next short.

  • I agree, I think we have a new Hitchcock here. Your Title Sequence would make even Saul Bass blush, very slick production.

  • I knew it was coming, but that didn't make the execution of this short film any less enjoyable. I agree with the other comments, most Hitchcock classics have predictable endings, it's the journey that makes the film fun. Has this director made any other films?

  • This is extremely impressive. Its very cleanly filmed. Goes to show, "less is more".

Very well directed. I cant believe this film didnt win that competition, Tropfest.

I guess the "key", is to make something pathetic.

  • Impressive short.

  • Great video - love the music, build-up and the twist, style very reminiscent of Hitchcock and Arsenic & Old Lace. The "old lady" is a great actor !!!

  • great twist, edited to perfection, love the way the camera dances around the table without once crossing the line - have you made any more films like this?

  • Great Video with an unbelievable twist

  • Hey Ron, I love the way the film's turned out, it was a real pleasure working with you and I look forward to doing it again sometime soon.
