The Serenity Prayer is a prayer written by Reinhold Niebuhr on July 1, 1943. Early in World War II, the prayer was printed on cards and distributed to the troops by the U.S.O. However, the prayer is reported to have been used before that date in Twelve-step programs for those recovering from hurts, habits, addictions and hang-ups.

The Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.

Although i am not religious, i have taken the meaning of this prayer to heart. It has made me seriously reflect and teach me to accept or change the situation. It has got me through some difficult times. God is not a physical manifestation. To me, God is us and is us taking control of our lives and asking ourselves for guidance, because we all need a bit of help at some point. Thank you.

This prayer and this sound of this voice and words that I hear in this beautiful video give me comfort tonight. Today our family lost a loved one doing what he does best and that was helping others. He was trying to get us all there safely to lay our other brother down to rest when he himself was called by our Lord. Two passings in our family in less than a week. Lord God give us all strength, we so need your loving arms to comfort us.

the first anonymous fraternity is from 1930 and the serenity prayer has been thought by Epictete the greek philosophe . But i'm agree to say it's a great prayer who help me every day between 8 month

@tvox1972 it's strange to say it is not a religious prayer, have you read all of it or just the first few lines. It was later used as you say by the anonymous fraternity, but the full prayer gets pretty specific in terms of higher powers. A christian in recovery.
