Before any one corrects me; the fall of Constantinople was in 1453 not 1457. Though cannon were used before 1453 the siege of that year was the first time that cannons had been used on mass to such a devastating result. one cannon; 27 feet long could haul a ball over a mile and was the biggest cannon in the world at the time.

And now, for your edification and entertainment, I present the Top 10 accidental inventions according to Popular Science: Penicillin, Pacemakers, Synthetic Dye, Radioactivity, Plastic, Vulcanized Rubber, Teflon, Coca-Cola, "Smart Dust," and Saccharine. Oddly enough, gunpwder didn't even make the list. Go figure.

2,000 attempts before TAE hit on carbonized thread. "Crazy Henry" Ford? "Get a horse!" Robert Goddard? "Rockets and space travel? Nonsense! On your way to New Mexico!" Billy Mitchell? "Aircraft sinking battleships? NEVER! Court martial the rascal and drum him out of the service!"

Talking of delusion nonsenses I like Steampunk a world of delusional nonsense, but very engaging

There’s a funny scene in back to the future. When Marty McFly first meets the Professor s who has a rack of light bulbs on a 3 foot crown. When Marty explains who is and what he’s come… and tells him about the flux capacitor. Staring at Marty with bushy eyes.. he grabs his light crown “This mean this doesn’t work” tearing it off his head.

Definitely. I'm thinking of Edison's remark that he hadn't taken 200(?) attempts to make a light bulb, he'd discovered 199 ways how NOT to make one - plus one that did.

Total concurrence with you on 1,2,3 and 4. I believe the Columbus Day 'controversy' was discussed a while back. No idea why the custodians/organizers of BHM didn't seize the opportunity to offer ONE DAY for Native American Remembrance as an event of it's own, but apparently they are more hostile to N/As. It's OLDER than slavery.

for some is often bad news for others. Europeans benefited greatly from access to the New World. The natives? Not so much. I don't think Columbus Day is celebrated by the N.As.
