ever take a monitor apart there's a big coil wrapped around the tube that is powered with ac current on start up to degauss the tube, some of them you could see the screen turn funny colors and tweak a little when they did this upon powering. And yes they did make a big coil that was powered with ac current to degauss crt's. pretty much every tv repairman in the industry had at least one of these...

no, its repairable - with big coil. Also many modern CRT monitor itself degauss in time.

Oldest monitors without degauss coil is recovery itself...but within weeks :-)
