J.S. Bach composed "Ich ruf' zu dir, Herr Jesu Christ" (I call to Thee, Lord Jesus Christ), BWV 177 in Leipzig as late as 1732 in order to complete his second annual cycle of chorale cantatas of 1724. The cycle lacked a cantata for the Fourth Sunday after Trinity because that Sunday had been the Feast of Visitation in 1724, celebrated then by "Meine Seel erhebt den Herren," BWV 10. The cantata was first performed on 6 July 1732.
He also arranged the opening chorus for organ as a chorale prelude (BWV 639) for his Orgelbüchlein ("Little Organ Book") written while he was court organist at the ducal court in Weimar.
This piece is heard in the Russian 1972 science fiction movie "Solaris" and was also arranged by Isao Tomita on his 1978 album "Kosmos" (where I first heard it).
I "orchestrated" the music for choir, strings, organ and basoon, keeping it "natural" in sound.
