These aren't technically mountain traditions, nor would they be overall mountain traditions even if this university was on a mountain, they're just for this university. I just had to think of a short title. I do not have any gain from this vid, I'm merely ranting and putting out my thoughts, since I only get to publish probably one article in the paper, so I'm working on that after I upload these.

  • You say that you "only get to publish probably one article in the paper." That said, I also invite you, once you have had the opportunity to inform yourself, to put your interest in such commentary at work in the campus environment by submitting articles to the Sewanee Purple.

  • Perhaps your commentary could be a bit more informed. Though I am a strong advocate for commentary regarding the social, "traditional," and administrative structures in place at the University, I do urge you to look into your claims.

  • Additionally, and most glaringly, you say that Sewanee claims it has a minority population of 50% minority. "You can find it on the website," you say (6:47). Really? No official communication from the University ever, ever states that. 14% of Sewanee students are minorities. That is the minimum percentage of a campus population that is required by the U.S. Department of Education for a college or university to be considered "diverse" in the racial/ethnic makeup of its student body.

  • Actually, the fact of the matter is, women comprise more of the student body because they statistically higher cumulative high school GPAs. This is reflected in their performance at Sewanee, as women perform, demonstratably, at a consistently higher level than men overall.

  • When you discuss diversity, you say that Sewanee now possesses a marginally higher percentage of female students. That is true. Since 1969, Sewanee has admitted women to the undergraduate program. You state that this is not just a result of the "evolutionary" necessity of women. True. You then go on to say that the reason more women are students at Sewanee is that "it appeals more to females" (6:31). (Continued)

  • A few of the things you claim are incorrect. Firstly, regarding the receipt of an academic gown resultant from admission to the Order of the Gownsmen, you say that the GPA standards for membership begin at 4.0 for a rising sophomore and become lower as a student progresses in credit hours. The descent of GPA standards is true. The GPA requirements, however, begin at 3.4 for a rising sohpomore, 3.2 for a rising junior, and 3.0 for a rising senior.
