[Watch In High Definition]
On Thursday, December 29th, 2011, I ran into a guy while watching trains, Ahhammed, a African American College Student from Somali. He asked me for help on how to get to San Diego. I told him that there weren't anymore trains that stopped at Moorpark... the final 3 blast by the Station. He had his tickets all paid for. He was a first time train-rider. He accidentally took a Metrolink train Northbound from Chatsworth - Moorpark. I felt bad for the guy, as he'd have to spend the entire night out in the cold until Train #768 at 8:05am.
So I thought of what I could do to help. I knew the conductor on Metrolink #123. I thought that maybe he could let him ride up to the next station, Camarillo, and have him get him on 796 to San Diego from there. When he stopped in Moorpark I asked him, and he said he couldn't as 796 pulls up a minute before them and they meet on the wrong track to make that possible. When he was pulling away he said "Call Metrolink's hotline, and see if they could contact 796 and have them make a flag stop to pick him up:".
So I did just that. I called, was put on hold, and talked to Representative "Natalie" ... she said she'd call the Dispatcher and try to have a flag stop arranged. She did warn me that it was highly un-likely that they'd just stop for one person, and I was aware of this as 796 (as previously mentioned) does NOT stop at Moorpark. She said to call back in 5 minutes to see if they'd arrange for it to happen or not. I was beginning to worry as the train was only about 10 minutes away at this point. I called back and heard "Okay, I called the dispatcher, he contacted 796, and they will be picking him up at Moorpark". This was great. I felt really good. So, as promised, 796 pulled up to a stop and picked him up. He thanked me, shook my hand, and boarded the train.
It feels really good to help others out. I felt great after doing this. I went through alot to do it, but never-the-less it all paid off. It's always better to give than recieve.

It's terrific that you implemented your connections with and knowledge of the local railway infrastructure to help one guy out. Have you ever considered a job in railroading?
