I have had many requests from viewers asking about how London's 2012 Olympic Village is getting on. I am pleased to say that, as this video shows, there has been a vast change since I visited the site last summer. I took the opportunity to start at the same place as I filmed from last year then cycled along the canals that surround the Olympic village site to give a full perspective on the building works as well as reveal a 'hidden' london of peaceful canals and waterways. This episode starts with a map of the Olympic Village but if you would like to cross-reference, head to the Google map linked ot this video. You will see the location is next to "Pudding Mill Lane DLR". This is a Docklands Light Railway station which has existed for some time but now finds itself in the heart of the Olympic village site. Although the Google aerial photography has not yet caught up with the building works, you can still clearly see the main roads and canals surrounding the site. This episode was filmed on Monday 2nd March 2009 - about 1240 days to go...!

  • @762SLR762,If you remember you sent me a nice message regarding the Olympic site after i pointed out how it would be well over budget and i was accused of being misinformed and not having a clue..............What i stated still stands,so if you can read then read this this!; //money.aol.co.uk/2012/01/26/olympics-cost-11-7bn-is-it-worth-it/?icid=maing-grid7|uk|dl4|sec1_lnk2%26pLid%3D93718

  • @Kookas I think you ought to read the report by Chengcheng Jiang on the financial state of The Birds Nest. After the initial Olympics factor died down it has been very difficult to put the stadium to use except on a few rare occasions. The last thing I heard was that they were bringing in fake snow to produce a snow and ice extraveganza. It is true that the stadium has been approved for the 2015 World Athletics Championship and I am sure that the Chinese will bring it back to its former glory.

  • @snegdub The Birds Nest is being put to other uses, actually.

  • but theres one thing the britts never win anything in the olympics but still this will be really nice

  • @iL0VEwomensfeet

I agree about the stadium design, but the London Olympic Park as a whole is light years ahead of anything that has gone before.Athens and Beijing were total disasters paticularly Athens where the site has been left in ruins. The Birdsnest is deteriorating through lack of use,and I did read somewhere that bits have fallen off. It is a monster that is being left to die, and the IOC are determined that in future it is the legacy aspect that is more important than the grand gesture.

  • BEIJING 2008 OLYMPIC STADIUM IS THE BEST DESIGN!.....it looks more like the ARCHITECTURE that we should pushing for the future designs...design should not go back in time.....therefore the 2012 olympic stadium looks old fashioned and looks like something that some architect drawn at the last minute.....2012 stadium is just ugly and boring looking!

  • Good video but people still need to realise that the 2012 is going to be the biggest white elephant ever!!!!.

The site is months behind schedule and massively over budget, what's going to happen after the Olympics?.The stadium is losing two tiers, fair enough the village is being sold for private housing but what's happening with the rest?.

When it's all over there'll be a massive amount of arguing, there'll be no money left to alter the rest of the buildings......

  • @762SLR762 If taxes go up to over 60%, there won't be many consumers left to drive an economy or recovery. I agree with most of your last comment. If you buy more than you can afford, shame on you. I feel the same way about governments who are doing this on a massive scale that is unsustainable. Someone needs to cut off the spigot of loans and turn off the printing press before future generations are just slaves to this debt. Again, I wish you well (not death, like you wish to me).

  • @762SLR762 - The debt load of the UK and US is unsustainable. 2 things will happen 1) the common people will be taxed to the point where overall gdp is choaked to death. 2) they default & their triple A credit rating goes to shit. London should of never bid on the olympics. When does spending stop and paying begin? I guess you subscribe to the brilliant theory that countries can spend their way into prosperity?? BTW I don't wish death upon you for disagreeing with me..
