This 4 minute video produced by Dr. Coleman Martin at the Saint Luke's Brain and Stroke Institute in Kansas City, Missouri demonstrates an interventional radiology stroke treatment of a woman who presented with left sided numbness and weakness. The Penumbra aspiration catheter system is demonstrated both in a model and in this patient's brain. This video gives patients, students and the public a sense of the scope of interventional stroke therapy.

  • This is a terrific video. It illustrates beautifully why we need more 24/7 stroke centers in the U.S.

  • @Bobe94549 I could not agree more about the need for 24/7 stroke centers with Neurointerventional coverage. Most stroke centers offer TPA only. We encourage our neighboring stroke centers to transfer TPA patients to us so we can operate if the vessel has not opened.

Stay tuned. Next week I will post another video on using Wingspan stents to open brain arteries.

  • As a patient who have undergone an angiogram for an AV Anomaly. Thanks for posting this Bridget.

  • This is great overview of the Penumbra System. The visual comparisons between video and fluoro are excellent in understanding the technical functions of how the clot is removed. Great job!
